About Camilla Johansson Bäcklund

Camilla's approach to research is a/r/tographic and post-qualitative. Her artistic work primarily involves performance and writing, but also applies image-based processes such as film, painting and drawing. In her methodologies, art, pedagogy and research often appear and operate as an intertwined entity.

With a particular interest in becomings - as intra-active configurations of human as well as non-human matter - Camilla draws on everyday events and interweaves them with philosophy and artistic enquiry. She is inspired by scholars and philosophers as Karen Barad, Gilles Deleuze, Édouard Glissant and Hannah Arendt, among others. This gives, her processes is involved with ontologies of immanence and have an interest in relational pedagogies.

As a teacher at HDK-Valand, Camilla teaches and supervises in art, slojd and arts education, mainly at in-depth and advanced level. She is specialised in ABR (Arts Based Research), ABER (Arts-based Educational Research), posthuman philosophy and postqualitative approaches, but also in the history and subject-related pedagogy of Swedish school subject Bild.

Camilla holds master’s in Arts Education and in Fine Art. She has presented, exhibited and participated in a number of conferences, exhibitions and art festivals, both in Sweden and internationally. She has also been part of and initiated several collaborative performance works, such as Carrying a Tree Down The River (2016), Stand with Old Tjikko (2019), Spruce is a Spruce is a Spruce (2020), 80 Teachers Gently Iron 80 Wrinkled Shirts Smooth (2016) and Hominids in Rya skog (2019).
