About Daniel Zuleta Zapata

I am a quantitative forest ecologist interested in how global changes impact forest dynamics, functioning and biodiversity. I primarily use data derived from long-term forest inventories coupled with new technologies (e.g., drones, terrestrial laser scanning) and large-scale biological collections (e.g., botanical records, tree rings) to answer questions aiming to improve predictions of forest responses under environmental change. My current research focuses on understanding the mechanisms driving forest biomass losses via tree mortality and non-lethal damage. I currently coordinate the Tropical Forest Mortality Working Group, the ForestGEO Annual Mortality and Damage Program, and am one of the principal investigators of the long-term Amacayacu Forest Dynamics Plot in the Amazon forest.
