About Darko Sarovic

About Darko Sarovic

Darko (MD and BA in psychology) is a PhD candidate in psychiatry at the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, master student in psychology, resident in radiology at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and research fellow in radiology at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston, USA).

Research

His main research interest is autism and he has, among other things, suggested a theoretical framework for how the condition develops and its biological mechanisms. In his work he uses magnetoencephalography and magnetic resonance imaging for classification and the identification of biomarkers. Besides this, he has also performed a systematic review on gender dysphoria in adolescence. In his work in the USA he will investigate the social interaction between children with autism and their parents with simultaneous neurophysiologial scanning (so called hyperscanning with electro- and magnetoencephalography).

In his research he has received funding by:

  • Göteborgs Läkaresällskap
  • Fredrik och Ingrid Thurings stiftelse
  • Professor Bror Gadelius Minnesfond
  • Röntgenkliniken, Sahlgrenska Sjukhuset
  • Stiftelsen för vetenskapligt arbete inom barnneuropsykiatri
  • Svenska Läkaresällskapet
  • Adlerbertska Stipendiestiftelsen
  • Svensk Förening för Medicinsk Radiologi
  • International Society for Autism Research
  • Stiftelsen Systrarna Greta Johansson och Brita Anderssons Minnesfond

Education and pedagogical experience

He is a clinical supervisor for clinical interns and residents as well as for medical students during their clinical rotations in radiology. He is also a lecturer for medical students in internal medicine and surgery, and has been responsible for some of their clinical rotations at the Mölndal and Östra hospitals. He supervises bachelor theses for civil engineering students at the Chalmers University of Technology.

Clinical work

He is a clinical resident in radiology at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and has previously worked as a junior physician in child- and adolescent psychiatry at the Södra Älvsborg Hospital.
