About Ellie Power

I am a Doctoral Student in Film Studies, within the Aesthetics Unit at the Department of Cultural Sciences. My PhD research project examines the politics and aesthetics of temporalities in contemporary films of urban spaces. I am particularly interested in the use of slowness as an aesthetic tool to highlight the temporalities of urban life and labour. Some of my other academic interests include representations of class in cinema, film-philosophy, video art, and visual culture.

At the University of Gothenburg, I teach within Film Studies, including on the courses Film History 1950’s until Today, Methods in Film Studies, and Feminist Film Theory.

I received a BA (Hons) in Fine Art: Print and Time-based Media from University of the Arts London. I also hold an MA in Literature, Visual Culture and Film Studies (cum laude) jointly from Tallinn University and the Estonian Academy of Arts, for which I was awarded the Dora Plus Scholarship. I have previous experience teaching at University of the Arts London and London Metropolitan University.
