About Hampus Holmberg

My research aims at studying the effects of climate change in tropical montane rainforests. I study the ecophysiological responses of trees as a consequence of increasing temperatures and decreasing water availability. The research is conducted in Rwanda and in Peru. In Rwanda I work within the framework of Rwanda TREE (www.rwandatree.com) that uses an elevational gradient as a proxy for studying how native species are impacted by a warmer climate. The field site in Peru is located in a cloud forest by Wayqecha Cloud Forest Research Station. A big part of the research here aims at studying how trees are affected by a reduction in cloud cover, this is done within The Cloud Curtain Project (cloudcurtain.org). Some of the areas central to my research is foliar water uptake, water economy, carbon assimilation, leaf energy balance, heat tolerance and thermal optimum.
