About Jana Schwenk
I am a reseracher at the Department of Political Science at Gothenburg University. I defended my dissertation with the title "Beyond the Party's Realm - The Consequences of Variation in Candidate Selection" in December 2023, in which I investigated inclusive selection of candidates can affect voters' perceptions of political systems and candidates. I now work on projects on intraparty democracy and party financing and am broadly interested in everything concerning intraparty democracy, voters' perceptions of political institutions, and female representation.
Previous to my doctoral studies, I studied Political Science with a focus on Comparative Politics and Methods in Social Sciences at the University of Konstanz (BA/MA) and Gothenburg University (MSc). I was a visiting PhD scholar with Prof. Javier Astudillo in January and February 2023 at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and will be a visiting Post-doctoral researcher at the Université Libre de Bruxelles with Prof. Emilie van Haute in March/April 2024.
I teach in the course "Introduction to applied research design and quantitative methods for social scientists" (Fall semester) and supervise students writing their Bachelor- and Master theses.
