About Karin Silverin
I am a PhD candidate in Art History and Visual Studies. My dissertation is centered on contemporary olfactory art, specifically exploring methods and interpreting principles for analyzing artworks that smell. Through affect theory and Böhme's theory on aesthetic atmospheres, I explore how smells and smelling artworks come to be meaningful, looking at mnemonic, affective and bodily involvement as well as olfactory description and phenomenological presence.
