Licensed Speech and Language Pathologist, MSc (Medicine) | PhD Student in Sound Environment and Health
Loisa Sandström is a PhD student at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, Institute of Medicine, University of Gothenburg, affiliated with Sahlgrenska Academy. She holds a Degree of Master of Science in Speech and Language Pathology and a Degree of Master of Medical Science, and is a licensed Speech and Language Pathologist.
Her PhD project, CHEER – Children’s Hearing Environment and Emotional Response, investigates how the preschool sound environment affects children's hearing, language development, and emotional well-being. The study spans 15 preschool departments in Gothenburg, assessing children's hearing, language abilities, and emotional responses in relation to their daily sound exposure. It also includes questionnaire interviews with children about their experiences of sound, alongside objective room acoustic and noise level assessments.
Loisa utilises various measurement methods, including stationary sound level recordings, individually worn dosimeters, and Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions (DPOAE) to assess hearing function. Her research aims to improve our understanding of how preschool sound environments may affect children's hearing and communication, with potential implications for educational and health policies in the future.
