I am PhD student in the study of religion with a focus on Islamic studies since fall 2023. My PhD project investigates the spectatorship of Egyptian Ramadan TV serials among Arabic-speaking audiences in Sweden. The project will on the one hand look into what meaning Ramadan TV serials generally have for the celebration of Ramadan in the Muslim-minority country Sweden. On the other hand, the special focus of the project lies on masculinities and how representations of different masculinities in the serials are interpreted and reflected on by audiences in diasporic contexts.
I am also part of the Swedish national research school in Islamic studies.
My research interests are Arabic TV serials (with a focus on Egypt), audience studies, masculinity studies and Muslim life in Europe -with a special focus on critical race theory/decolonial theory and gender.
