Magnus Willesson's research involves changes in financial intermediation based on changes in the business environment, including technical change new actors (Fintech, Embedded banking) and regulation. A major focus is the effects on risks and costs in total and between actors. The current research identify sources of change and its effects to financial intermediators in the payment system, banking system and non-bank actors taking a share of the financial value chain.
The publications can be found in journals like Journal of Banking and Finance, European Journal of Finance, The Economics Journal, The Service Industries Journal, Review of Network Economics and Managerial Finance.
