About Rikard Warlenius

I am senior lecturer in human ecology and associate professor in environmental social science at the School of Global Studies. I currently teach courses on sustainable development, ecological economics, political ecology, environmental history and climate transformations.

I completed my PhD in human ecology at Lund University. My thesis – Asymmetries. Conceptualising Environmental Inequalities as Ecological Debt and Ecologically Unequal Exchange – was defended in 2017.

My research area is mainly societal and economic perspectives on energy, climate change and climate policy, including global justice aspects. I lead a research project on the role of grassroots initiatives in the climate transition.

I also do research and write about climate and economic growth. In 2022 the book Klimatet, tillväxten och kapitalismen [Climate, Growth, and Capitalism] was published.
