About Simone de Boer
I am a PhD student in Social Anthropology at the School of Global Studies. My PhD research is focused on the development and meaning of organic farming and permaculture in Kyrgyzstan. Using ethnographic and (audio)visual methods, I explore processes of embodied/sensory learning and knowing, more-than-human relationships, and ‘good farmer’ identities.
I have a background in Cultural Anthropology and Film & Photographic Studies. In my previous research in Kyrgyzstan, I studied ‘traditional’ horse games and human-horse relationships in the context of increasing tourism, processes of sportification, and the development of mega sporting events.
