Sona Sukiasyan has been a doctoral student in sociology since September 2023. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Middle East Studies from Lund University and Yerevan State University. In her master's thesis she examined the ways Syrian-Armenian migrants in Armenia perceive and narrate homeland, home, and belonging in their post-migration setting
In Sona's doctoral research, she aims to understand how food practices shape migrants’ identities, sense of belonging, and feeling of home, focusing on Armenian migrants’ experiences in Sweden. This study also aims to consider how migrants’ experiences and food practices are performed within the larger social, political, and economic systems of the new places of settlements.
Sona's research interests include migration and integration, diaspora studies, food studies, feminist and post-colonial theories, and ethnographic methods.
Sona teaches several courses at the bachelor level provided by the Sociology and Work Science department in sociology. She supervises bachelor theses and welcomes supervision requests on topics related to her research interests.
