María José Zapata Campos

The talk discusses the Circular Grassroots Research Project and the citizen-driven initiative Solidarity fridge. Solidarity fridge aims to save and distribute food waste from grocery stores, bakeries and similar, that would otherwise be thrown away. This can be unsold bread or products whose best-before date is close or has passed but are still suitable for consumption. The food is then distributed to anyone interested. Thus, the project draws attention to pressing issues of food waste, making it visible and tangible. It also serves as a meeting point between university staff, students, and the public.

In the talk we also get insight of a recently submitted article titled “Alternate infrastructures of care: restoring people’s abilities to care in a city of thresholds”, in which the Solidarity fridge project is conceptualized as an alternative infrastructure of care, that can expand and restore our ability to provide and receive care.

Carl-Johan Skogh

This talk explores food and food culture through design. The talk is based on the freestanding course EAT taken by people with an interest in the relationship between design and the act of eating. In the course the meal is seen as a platform for conversation, reflection, experiences and meetings. Course participants explore the materiality, spatiality and choreography of eating through a practical design project.
