A graduation show marks the end of something and the beginning of something else. With different approaches and practices, 18 graduating students question the world we live in and how we relate to it. What kind of place is this? Can we do things differently?
When HDK-Valand’s graduation exhibition of bachelor students in fine art takes place at Konstepidemin, visitors move between dreamlike states and a radical reality. A diversity of media is presented, from painting to installation. A common thread is the students’ great care for the materials they work with.
The familiar and the transformative is explored through environmental statistics and painting as well as floating luxury utopias, unwanted toys, an interactive love drama, and large-scale photo collages. Amidst the wide range of expression, there is a sense of belonging in the constant search. In the students’ interest in materials, there is resistance, escapism, and comfort.
