Illegalisms in Republican China: methodology in studying gangsters

Thomas Aerts, PhD candidate in Sinology, presents his dissertation project and a text on methodology. The dissertation project deals with illegal groups, sometimes called "secret societies", their interactions with the state and how they affected society in the first half of 20th century Republican China.
