About the North of Greenland 2024 expedition

North of Greenland 2024 expedition was carried out by the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat. The aim of the expedition was to address scientific questions focused on understanding the dynamic history and impact of the marine cryosphere on future climate change, including implications for marine and terrestrial ecosystems in northern Greenland and the adjacent Arctic Ocean, one of the least understood regions on Earth.

The expedition took place August 5 - September 17, 2024. During this time, 40 researchers onboard the icebreaker Oden conducted research in North Greenland, Victoria Fjord and Lincoln Sea. Among them was Hans Linderholm, Professor in Physical Geography at the University of Gothenburg. His research focuses on regional climate variability in Europe and Asia from the past (last 2000 years) to the future (next 100 years), the effect of climate change on terrestrial and marine ecosystems, and the role of the large-scale circulation in the oceans and atmosphere on climate variability in these regions.
