Focus for Ana Luisa's PhD project is how antibiotics and antibiotic-resistant bacteria affect the autochthonous microbial communities that inhabit the sediment in aquatic ecosystems and  which metabolic functions are relevant to maintain the ecological health of the environment.

Her main supervisor is  Natàlia Corcoll  and examiner Ingela Dahllöf, Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences. Co-supervisors are  Åsa Sjöling (Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology), Fabrice Martin-Lauren (National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE), France) and Victoria Osorio Torrens (Institute for Environmental Diagnosis and Water Studies (IDAEA-CSIC), Spain).
