Seminar
The politics of revenue bargaining in Africa: Triggers, Processes and Outcomes
Abstract:
At a time when international attention to the importance of domestic revenue mobilization in order to finance the sustainable development goals, Anne Mette Kjær presents a theoretical framework to explore the micro-instances of revenue bargaining. Drawing on case studies from her and co-author’s recent volume published at OUP, she presents findings about what triggers such instances of bargaining, how processes unfold, and what the outcomes can be. She discusses how and under what conditions fiscal contracts may occur, and what the implication may be for development policy and for donors wishing to support domestic revenue mobilization.
