Research in the Humanities in the wake of ChatGPT

How can Humanities researchers meet the challenges posed by ChatGPT and other applications of generative AI? The Swedish research infrastructure Huminfra is organising a webinar on the theme of generative AI and research in the Humanities. The online event consists of a keynote in English, followed by a panel discussion in Swedish.

Under the title The Imitation Game: Artificial Intelligence and Dialogue, Professor Geoffrey Rockwell, University of Alberta, Canada, will provide perspectives on how Humanities researchers have responded to previous developments in AI. He will demonstrate the tool Veliza, which is based on ELIZA from 1966 – one of the first chatbots with which it was possible to have a dialogue.

In the subsequent panel discussion, Humanities researchers working in academia, cultural heritage institutions, and politics, will provide their perspectives on the importance of AI for research and knowledge creation in the Humanities, yesterday, today and tomorrow.
