Yan Fyodorov: On energy landscapes of elastic manifolds in random potentials

Abstract

We will discuss the problem of elastic manifolds (mainly directed polymers, but also membranes, etc.) pinned by a random potential at zero temperature. The main goal is to count all possible mechanical equilibria (force-less configurations) at a given disorder strength and length of the polymer, with the aim of providing information on the ''depinning threshold'' - the value of external field forcing the polymer to move. The problem has interesting relations to random matrices, random Schroedinger operators, and glassy systems.
