Professor Yuka Oyama from HDK-Valand holds an open seminar during Munich Jewellery Week.
“Wearing Space: Body and Site” is a two-hour open seminar curated by Prof. Yuka Oyama from the HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design at the University of Gothenburg and Prof. Anders Ljungberg from Konstfack CRAFT!
Along with Yuka and Anders, selected MA students, Elena Aldrighetti and Shiyao Sun from HDK-Valand, and Jodie De Verney and Lovisa Hed from Konstfack, together with guestspeakers Dr. Patricia Domingues and Dr. Vivi Touloumidi they will share their work and engage in discussion on the body and the jewel in the context of place and site.
Based on the idea that jewellery occupies a unique position—worn on the body—and therefore, it is deeply embedded in life and matter, the open seminar will facilitate conversations on how jewellery serves as a method of inquiries that explores relationships between material, site, the body, space and set these in dialogue. Conversely, it will explore how body as a site, space, and location interacts with jewellery. We draw close attention to jewellery and site-specific political as well as geological history, personal geography, and spaces between jewellery and human body.
