For participants in Sweden, please note that the time for today’s webinar has changed to 2 pm (kl 14).

We apologize, but this change is due to the USA switching to Daylight Saving Time recently. Please note that the webinar times in the USA are the same, that is, 8 am in Texas and 9 am on the East Coast.

The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2024 was awarded to Professors Johnson, Acemoglu and Robinson for their research about the importance of persistent differences in societal institutions for long-term growth.

Professor Johnson’s lecture at this webinar addresses the impact of generative AI on jobs and incomes, where current debates contrast techno-optimism and techno-pessimism. Based on his co-authored book Power and Progress (with D. Acemoglu), Professor Johnson provides insights into historical trends and current debates about how technology impacts jobs, income and global inequality. He concludes with insights into an active role for policy to shape AI use.
