Guest Researcher: Eric Boyd

Eric Boyd holds an undergraduate degree in environmental science from the University of Dundee, and a Masters in anthropology, environment, and development from University College London (UCL). Eric will attend the guest researcher programme at the School of Global Studies from January to September 2020.

After finishing his Masters, Eric took a voluntary position as co-editor for the Centre for the Anthropology of Sustainability (CAoS) research group at UCL.

Bringing together his interdisciplinary past within the DurhamArctic programme, his research will examine the cultural enframing of extractive resources as they force the demolition and redevelopment of the town of Kiruna in Swedish Lappland. Drawing on the emerging framework of Object-Oriented Ontology, a synthesis of Political and Social Ecologies, Eric’s research will focus primarily on the multiple mutual temporal and spatial effects on the human/resource frontier, their hauntological propensity, and their role in the formation of identity on a local and regional scale.

Eric hopes to contribute to the research and teaching at the School of Global Studies, as well as a critical appraisal of his research so far.
