About Kahoko Yasumitsu-Lovell

Kahoko (Koko) Yasumitsu-Lovell, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in Environmental Medicine at Kochi Medical School, Kochi University, and a dedicated researcher at the Kochi Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre in Japan. She has been actively involved in one of the world largest ongoing birth cohort studies, the Japan Environment and Children’s Study (JECS) since its preparatory phase in 2010. Koko plays a pivotal role in collaborative projects between the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre in Sweden and Japan, as well as the Kochi Medical School. She successfully defended her thesis at the University of Gothenburg in 2023.

Research interests

Her research primarily focuses on investigating the associations between exposures during the pre-/perinatal periods/early childhood and child neurodevelopmental problems. Additionally, she is engaged in research on Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) and sensory issues, in collaboration between the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre and Kochi Medical School.
