Research interests

Maria completed her dissertation in 2007 with the thesis "Autism syndromes in three behavioural phenotype conditions: a clinical study of 76 individuals with Möbius sequence, CHARGE syndrome and oculo-auriculo-vertebral syndrome". The thesis, which was part of a multiprofessional study of three rare congenital conditions, aimed to measure the prevalence of autism in children in these groups, and to analyse difficulties in diagnosing autism in children with multiple disabilities. Maria's research has also focused on psychometric properties of the Swedish version of a semi-structured interview with parents/other closely related grownups (DISCO, Diagnostic Interview for Social and Communication Disorders), intended to be used mainly in the diagnosis of autism. In recent years, Maria has conducted a study of underlying risk factors and associated concomitant conditions in ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Feeding Disorder).
