11. Religion and Non-religion Across Generations
... and (Non-)Religious Transmission.
The nature of religious transmission has become a topic of increasing interest among scholars interested in religion. This is due to a growing awareness of the pattern of religious decline and the rise of non-religion in many Western and other liberal democracies. There are increasing numbers of people who have exited from religion altogether or never been socialized into it. In the midst of this general trend of decline, some religious groups are growing and are also successful in transmitting religion to the next generation.
In this session, the focus will be on generational changes in religion and non-religion, and religious (and non-religious) transmission in families and other religious influences. What is happening between generations that explain religious change? Papers addressing questions related to generational change, religiosity of various age groups or religious transmission, or other religious influences, are invited to this session.
