Growing education interest evident as autumn semester begins at the School

Published

The autumn term begins on 2 September, and the School of Business, Economics and Law is preparing to welcome a new cohort of students. When the application period for autumn programmes closed on 15 April, it became clear that interest in higher education continues to grow at Swedish universities.

“It is not surprising that interest in higher education studies is increasing” says Andreas Sandberg, acting head of department at the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR). A recently published report from UHR points out that the deterioration of the labour market and the new transitional study support for people in the middle of their working lives are likely to encourage even more people to apply for higher education in the coming year.

At the School, this trend is clearly reflected at undergraduate level. All programmes show an increase in both the total number of applications and the number of first-hand applicants. In addition, the minimum admission score has increased in both the first and second selection for all programmes. The School’s Law programme particularly stands out, ranking third in Sweden in terms of programmes with the most qualified applicants.

“It is gratifying to see the high level of interest in our programmes and that so many students see the School of Business, Economics and Law as their first choice in competition with the wide range of courses and programmes available today” says Oskar Broberg, Vice Dean of Education at the School and Associate Professor of Economic History.

This development indicates a continued strong demand for qualified higher education, and the School of Business, Economics and Law looks forward to meeting the new students in the coming semester.
