Chief Physician Suzanne Steffenburg passed away unexpectedly on February 23, 2025.

In the 1980s, she was one of the pioneers in the development of knowledge about autism and other neuropsychiatric disorders in children and adolescents (ESSENCE) and conducted groundbreaking early studies on the medical aspects of autism.

Many of us have had the privilege of working alongside her at both the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Sahlgrenska Academy and the Neuropsychiatric Clinic for Children (CNC) at Sahlgrenska University Hospital for several decades. She always shared her vast knowledge, and her clinical assessments were consistently insightful and trustworthy.

With her humour, warmth, and care, she enriched our lives, and we miss her deeply.
