Students create life-long networks. Active student life requires inspiring meeting places where networks can flourish. The idea is to support good ideas and contexts while strengthening students’ identification with the University of Gothenburg.
“The students have the ideas, and together we can help actualise them and support new initiatives that create solidarity and inclusion,” says Eva Wiberg.
Some examples include concerts, sporting events, design markets, social events, theatre and student comedies.
Students, student associations, and unions can apply for grants from the Student Fund to develop student social activities.
A new scholarship has been created: the Eva Wiberg scholarship for Student Life and Collaboration. Scholarships will be awarded for initiatives that focus on inclusiveness and unity of the University’s students and for collaboration with external groups and the private sector.
The fund can also be used for initiatives undertaken by the University to promote student social life.
“An important motivation for me has been a desire to strengthen student influence at the University,” says Wiberg. “I want to continue to do what I can to stimulate student life, even after my time as vice-chancellor, so that students gain the greatest benefit from their time here. Gothenburg has great potential as a student city. Our students are a driving force in the city and fill it with life.”
Student unions at the University of Gothenburg
Student unions support students throughout their studies. The unions seek to improve the quality of education and help students who need support. They also offer a range of non-academic activities through everything from associations and events to work contacts and student discounts.
The University has four student unions: The Göta Student Union; Sahlgrenska Academy Student Union (SAKS); Student Union of the School of Business, Economics, and Law (HHGS); and Konstkåren. The Student Unions at the University of Gothenburg (GUS) serve as a central coordinating body for the individual unions.
“There is no shortage of ideas among us students on how student life in Gothenburg can be improved. There are more ideas than ever,” says Elina Falsafi Tonekaboni, chair of the University of Gothenburg Student Unions.
