The floor will be art in the new building at Vasagatan 1

The bronze points in the floor will mark the places where images from news articles are sealed in the floor as time capsules. The artist has decided that the articles, from Swedish and international newspapers, should touch on issues of mobility and migration. The newspaper articles, with holes where the pictures once were,  will be placed in the corridors on the upper floors of the School's new building. The articles will be collected over a year’s time.

– The theme of mobility and migration -  relocations - is something that is interesting also regarding the activities at the School of Business, Economics and Law, which is very much about people and goods moving around the world. It is also a kind of eternal question. It is in the nature of mankind to move both oneself and different things. This is how values ​​arise in different ways, says Ulrika Holmberg, senior lecturer and researcher at the School of Business, Economics and Law, who has been part of the consultation group that has selected the artwork.

The artwork has been selected in a procurement carried out by Akademiska Hus and the Swedish Arts Council. The consultation group has included representatives from Akademiska Hus, AIX Arkitekter, the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, Johannes Norlanders arkitektur and the Swedish Arts Council.

– We are convinced that we have chosen the right project. During the process, Runo Lagomarsino was very responsive to both us and the architecture, eager that the work should give something both to us who work at the School as well as to visitors, says Ulrika Holmberg.

Runo Lagomarsino, who is educated at, among other, Valand Academy at the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts, lives and works in Malmö and São Paolo. In connection with the inauguration of the work in 2025, a marathon performance will be arranged where the articles will be read out one by one.

– It feels incredibly fun and exciting! I look forward to developing the Floor's history together with the School of Business, Economics and Law and the Swedish Arts Council. To create a complex project like this as a permanent public design, says Runo Lagomarsino in a press release.
