World-leading Researchers Speakers at Proteomics Conference in Gothenburg
“From single cells to populations” was the theme of this year’s proteomics symposium, organized by the Swedish Proteomics Society (SPS). On November 21-22, representatives from industry, students, junior researchers, and world-leading scientists gathered to share the latest developments in the extensive field of proteomics.
Proteomics is a branch of biology that focuses on studying proteins, their structures, and functions in various biological contexts. It is part of the so-called “omics” sciences, which include other areas such as genomics and metabolomics.
In proteomics, advanced techniques such as mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography are used to analyze large amounts of proteins simultaneously. This makes it possible to identify and quantify thousands of proteins in a single sample. Research in proteomics is important for understanding disease mechanisms, developing new drugs, and identifying biomarkers for various diseases.
The Swedish Protemics Society (SPS) was founded in December 2001, as a natural consequence of the strong interest in protein expression profiling linked to outstanding research in the areas of biomedicine, biotechnology, and biology. Here, genomics, protein chemistry and molecular biology have been successfully combined to further proteomic and medical research within the country.
The aims of the society are to endorse activities within the proteomic field in Sweden, to interface with international proteomic programs and to develop and further promote state-of-the-art proteomic technology.
