Entering the heated zone - on gang conflict breakdowns and their societal responses
Short description
Since the early 2000s, gang-related gun violence has drastically increased in Sweden, which differs sharply from the trend in other European countries. Conflicts and violence within and between gangs are something that research has seen as a natural part of the gang environment. There is a knowledge gap on why firearms are used and not other less harmful ways of dealing with the conflicts, not least for society's ability to reduce violence.
The study aims to deepen the understanding of the underlying logic of action of violence: what influences what is considered to be necessary ways of dealing with the conflict? As well as for the "scripts" that indicate how to function within the gang context. The study ends with a workshop that investigates the importance of the study results for how interventions against violence can be developed.
