Short description

This project studies technical developments in the payment system and explanations for the use of different technical solutions (from cash and payment cards to swish and cryptocurrencies) by different institutional actors. In terms of time, the 20th century and a bit into the 21st century are covered, but the focus is particularly on the second half of the 20th century. The overarching question is how the system's private and public actors have worked to build and maintain the system- and functional- trust needed to maintain the stability of the payment system over time.
