Lillhagen: heritage of psychiatry, memory and art
Research project
Active research
Short description
The aim of the project is to acknowledge the cultural heritage that could be destroyed in connection with the demolition of the former mental hospital Lillhagen, at Hisingen, Gothenburg. As part of this, a public display of the paintings made by former patients in the hospital culverts is arranged.
Lillhagen's murals are important to recognize not only to the patients who painted or viewed them, but also for us today. The murals not only provide insight into patients' minds and artistic expressions, they are also an important example of art as part of psychiatric treatment.
