Methodologies for destructive workplace conflicts: Know-how and theories of change
Short description
The purpose of the project was to contribute to more knowledge about methodologies for intractable workplace conflicts. 13 organizational consultants were comprehensively interviewed about one selected successful conflict management process. The case descriptions were analyzed in order to study what strategies the consultants used in order to mobilize the conflict parties to participate constructively in resolving the conflict. 18 types of strategies were identified. These were ordered into 6 categories: strategies for Releasing, Shift focus, Scaffold, Create rapport, Confront and Learn. The analysis showed that each conflict intervention has a particular theory of change profile depending on both the specific conditions of the conflict situation and of the underlying theories of change of the consultant.
