Short description

More than half of Sweden's population has access to a second home, many in sparsely populated and rural areas. Previous studies often depart from the narrative of the second home as a rural oasis for recreation and vacation, cut off from the primary residence and urban working life. However, people are living increasingly mobile lives and for many it is now possible to finish the working week from the summer cottage. Practicing multilocality, i.e., living in more than one place in everyday life, is becoming increasingly popular. Not least highlighted during the pandemic and the acceleration of remote work. This study stems from a curiosity to better understand the spatiotemporal division of everyday life for people living in multiple places. Through interviews, different types of multi-local everyday lives are discovered in the second home-intensive Swedish rurality.
