Nitrogen pathways in arable land

Research project

Short description

This project aims to provide complete N budgets for typical Swedish arable fields on clay soil with different fertilization. Particularly fertilizer N loss pathways (leaching, denitrification) and retention (e.g. immobilization) will be identified, which is needed to develop mitigation strategies and for modelling approaches. Fertilization trials (does and form of nitrigen fertilizer) are conducted at Lanna Research Station, both in field and lysimeters. The findings of this project will provide needed and valuable information for developing mitigation strategies for fertilizer N losses. Specifically, how different doses of mineral N fertilizer will affect N losses and comparing mineral fertilizer with animal slurry and digested biogas residues.
