Psychological treatment using virtual reality in forensic psychiatry (FOR-VR)

There is a major need for development, adaptation and evaluation of new assessment and treatment models that provide exposure to risk contexts in a safe way in forensic psychiatry. Virtual Reality could provide such possibilities. FOR-VR aims to develop, adapt, and evaluate new assessment and treatment methods using VR in forensic psychiatry. First, evidence-based or promising methods for treatment of areas of importance for forensic psychiatry (e.g., aggression, substance abuse, paranoid delusions) will be identified through a literature review. Second, a newly develop method for VR-assisted treatment of aggression, specifically designed for forensic psychiatry and with a CBT-approach, will be translated to Swedish and tested in a pilot study and an RCT in forensic psychiatric patients.
