Short description

The overall aim is to increase knowledge of assessing and treating substance abuse within forensic psychiatry, an urgent matter due to the considerable role of substance abuse in violent reoffending. A new routine for standard assessment of needs related to treatment of substance abuse will be investigated quantitatively, with repeated assessments every six months during their stay.
Sub-aims:
1) To assess the type, degree and psychological character of forensic psychiatric patients’ substance abuse and related comorbidity together with general level of motivation to determine what type and level of care is needed,
2) Run a pilot study, initiating and evaluating different types of treatment interventions that are individually adapted to the patients’ profiles regarding substance abuse, psychiatric co-morbidity and cognitive ability.
