Welfare and work in an aging population
Short description
The research program Welfare and work in an aging population is funded by the Swedish Research Council for Work and Social Sciences (FAS). The program started in 2007 and runs until 2012. The purpose is to provide knowledge about the consequences of aging and to find strategies to deal with a changed age composition. The research program will follow the aging process from the exit from working life to issues of care and care among the very oldest.
Four general themes can be distinguished. The first concerns the labor market participation of the elderly. What does the path from work to retirement look like and what opportunities are there for the elderly to stay in the labor force longer than is the case now? The second aspect concerns the financial situation of the elderly and the possibility of living a decent life even as a pensioner. A third question concerns the social relations of the elderly and a fourth question concerns the health and need for care and support among the very oldest. The research program is closely linked to the Panel Survey of Aging and the Elderly (PSAE), which is a nationwide longitudinal study of the living conditions of the elderly.
