ERM workshop February 1, 2019

Thank your for a great ERM day February 1st!

The Centre for Finance at the School of Business, Economics and Law, University of Gothenburg, AB Volvo and KPMG want to THANK YOU for attending our day on ENTERPRISE RISK MANAGEMENT!

We think it was a great day overall and it was a good opportunity to learn from each other’s experiences, discuss thoughts and ideas about ERM, and network.

We were lucky to have Hans Læssøe, Founder of AKTUS and former Strategic Risk Manager at LEGO, speak to us about moving from managing risks to intelligent risk taking. We also heard about ERM at Sandvik Group from Fredrik Finnman, Head of Group Risk Management, and ERM at Vattenfall AB from Dr. Ulrich Adamheit, Head of Business Risk Analysis.
We saw what HandelsFinance and some of the students on the ERM course in the Accounting and Financial Management Master’s program had in mind for communicating strategic risk – many highlighted the importance of focusing on achievement of strategic initiatives and the upside of risk.

Risk management is about performance. With a world and risk landscape that is changing quickly and stakeholders requiring a long-term value focus, the following advice from the day can hopefully be helpful:
• Work proactively with risks
• Define uncertainty drivers
• Leverage off opportunities
• Integrate into decision making
• Remember sustainability and long-term value
• Define strategic goals
• Find and build top-down buy-in
• As a Risk Manager/Head of ERM/CRO:
o Ask questions
o Listen carefully
o Speak the language of the business
