Application for the Master's Programme in Political Science: Environmental Governance and Behavior
Assessment of qualifications for applying.
Selection
If there are more eligible applicants than there are spots, a selection will be made based on a combined assessment of the following two documents, which aim to capture your previous experiences and career goals:
- A Statement of intent (template available at the bottom of the page) and
- A written assignment that you have completed individually during your previous education. Ideally, this is your bachelor's thesis, but it can also be another academic text that you have written yourself. Group or pair assignments are not accepted.
These two documents must be submitted to universityadmissions.se no later than February 3 (if you apply in the first admission round October 20 - January 15 ) or May 2 (if you apply in the second admission round March 15 - April 15). Please note that the exact date may vary, see universityadmissions.se. NB! The Statement of intent must be in English. The written assignment can be in Swedish or in English. If your written assignment is in another language, you can translate it yourself into one of these two languages. If a translation has been made, this must be stated in your description of the written assignment (see question 3 in the Statement of intent below).
In the assessment of the documents, particular attention will be paid to the following aspects:
- relevant academic and professional experiences
- other relevant experiences, such as volunteering, internships, etc,
- how well the program fits in with your career goals
- how much experience you have in writing academic texts; and
- how well you express yourself in writing (structure, vocabulary, grammar, clarity, etc.).
The assessment is carried out by faculty members at the Department. Based on the assessment, eligible applicants will receive a merit score and will be ranked accordingly.
Use the Statement of intent template provided below. Please note that it is not possible to make changes to the template and that space is limited to 1000 characters (including spaces) per question. Your Statement of intent should answer the questions below, be well structured, and be written in a clear and correct manner.
- Please list your three most relevant academic and/or non-academic experiences and describe how they have been important for your interest in the Master's Programme in Political Science: Environmental Governance and Behavior (MaPSE), as well as how they have contributed to preparing you for the issues addressed in this programme.
- What are your personal, as well as professional goals and ambitions and how do you think MaPSE helps you in your pursuit of these?
- Please briefly describe: 1) the kinds of academic writing you have practiced during your previous education and to what extent, 2) the individually produced written assignment from your previous education that you attach to your application (topic, length of the paper, what language it was written in, and what type of writing task it was, e.g. thesis, essay, literature review, research plan, research article, or something else).
