Bachelor's programme in Photography
In this programme, you get to learn the methods, practices and knowledge of the field of photography. Upon completion of your studies, you’ll be able to work independently as a photographer.
The instruction in this programme is largely configured around specific projects and problems. The curriculum is divided into courses that extend for a full academic term, interweaving practice and theory together in a variety of projects: group critique, lectures, seminars and coursework that deals with the specific methods used in the production of books or exhibitions, for example, as well as field trips, guest lectures and individual instruction. The programme concludes with an independent project that includes a writing assignment. A large proportion of the course reading is in English. Final grading is by both oral and written examination.
In the programme’s first year, you’ll learn the fundamentals of the history and theory of photography as well as the practical processes involved in analogue and digital photography. We focus on process, method and development connected with a growing visual understanding of image and context. Through lectures and seminars, you’ll develop your knowledge of the history of photography and your skill in critically evaluating the angles and perspectives from which histories are written and theories are articulated. You’ll be trained in searching out material, reading and writing. In workshops you’ll get to try out studio lighting, photography techniques using a variety of different camera models, black-and-white film, colour photo streams, and digital tools. You’ll work artistically on specific themes that are rooted in issues in the debate about photography as a medium.
