Bachelor's programme in Textile Art
The bachelor’s programme in craft is rooted in material, technique and artistic processes. Based on your chosen concentration in textile art, you’ll develop practical skills, critical and analytical abilities, and your own individual artistic expression.
The field of textiles is a rich source of inspiration for an artist. The programme is founded on three fundamental principles that are interrelated. All of our projects – regardless of technique, material or expression – move between these three areas:
- Surface: texture, colour, pattern
- Structure: construction, assembly, configuration
- Context: interpretation, concept, surroundings
The programme weaves together theory and practice, challenging you to think and create independently and critically. In the beginning, our focus is on material and technique; later you’ll be guided toward increasingly independent and complex work in the field.
Through lectures, guest instructors, workshops and field trips, you’ll gain perspective and inspiration in your work and will be able to relate it to theory, the world around you, contemporary culture and history. As a student, you’ll be encouraged to participate in national and international exchanges and exhibitions that form the foundation of a future network of contacts.
Courses in visual expression, history, writing, communication and theory development in crafts, art and design are given together with students from the programmes in ceramic art and jewellery art.
NOTE! The programme is conducted in Swedish, except for semesters when exchange students attends. Applicants who wish to attend the full programme must be proficient in Swedish or another Scandinavian language and be able to demonstrate this through either grades or a Swedish test for higher education. The full programme description and information about how to apply may be found on the Swedish site.
