Digital Religion and Popular Culture
About
Today’s religion is increasingly medialized, and new digital media have
transformed religions in ways and at a rate that has been rarely seen.
The return of religion and spirituality is evident in contemporary
popular culture such as movies, games and books.
The course addresses
relationships between religion, digital media and popular culture based
on current research in the field. Central concepts such as popular
culture and digital religion are presented and discussed. Throughout the
course, interaction between religious traditions and groups, digital
media and popular culture is highlighted, and the latter’s contribution
to religious change is emphasized.
Prerequisites and selection
Entry requirements
Bachelors degree or University studies equal to a Bachelors degree, including an approved Bachelor thesis of at least 15 credits. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 5/English A from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
