Summary

You deepen your ability to analyze and discuss German-language literary and cultural theory in a European context, with a focus on both theory and textual practice.
The course is aimed at students with advanced knowledge of German who wish to develop their academic competence in literary and cultural studies.

About

In this course, you deepen your understanding of German-language literary and cultural theory within a broad European context. You study how various theories in literary and cultural studies have developed and are applied, and how these issues relate to the historical and contemporary expressions of German literature and culture.

Teaching consists of lectures and seminars in German and Swedish, where you actively participate both in writing and orally in the analysis and discussion of scholarly texts and theories. You will practice independently and critically analyzing, evaluating, and combining theoretical perspectives with empirical text examples—thereby contributing to the understanding of the field of study. Assessment is based on written assignments and an oral examination.

NB: The course has scheduled online classes when given as a distance course.
