Manuscripts and Textual Criticism in Biblical Studies

The course offers an introduction to manuscripts and other textual witnesses of the biblical tradition, to canonised as well as apocrypha, and other non-canonised texts in their original language. The student will be familiar with with individual manuscripts in facsimile as well as critical editions, while studying the principles behind the text editions.
The student is also trained in applying basic text-critical principles to selected texts. During the course, the student will problematise original text, autograph, copies, and canonical textform in relation to the diversity and fluidity that is visible in biblical text traditions.
Prerequisites and selection
Entry requirements
Degree of Bachelor or completed courses of at least 180 credits at first cycle level, of which at least 90 credits with progression in some main field of study where it is included a bachelor's thesis of at least 15 credits. Qualified are also those that have equivalent foreign education or that have equivalent prior knowledge according to earlier study regulation. Furthermore, knowledge corresponding to English A/English 5 and 15 credits in either Old Testament Hebrew or New Testament Greek is required.
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
