Natrium - a new building on Medicinareberget
Since the beginning of the autumn semester of 2023, a large part of the University of Gothenburg's teaching and research in natural sciences has been gathered in a new building.
Natrium is a brand new building on Medicinareberget, which is located near Sahlgrenska Hospital. It will bring together students and researchers in the fields of biology, molecular biology, chemistry, marine sciences, environmental sciences, earth sciences and conservation.
Natrium is directly adjacent to what is known as the Medicinarelängan, where students studying courses in health and medical care have part of their teaching. As a science student, you will have the majority of your teaching in the Natrium or in Medicinarelängan.
About the building
The Natrium is seven storeys high, and as a student you will mainly be on the lower floors, where you can find lecture halls, teaching labs and study places for students. On the ground floor there is also a study office, study guidance and the student union's office. Higher up in the building you can find the researchers and administrative staff.
Environmentally sustainable building
Natrium has been awarded an environmental certification, Miljöbyggnad Guld, which means that the building has low energy consumption and that sustainable materials have been used both in the construction and for the interior design.
Sustainability has been a principle both in the purchase of new furniture and in its reuse. Some of the furniture in the meeting rooms and common areas will be reused, while the equipment in the labs, for example, is brand new. The building is also designed in a way that makes it easy to do changes to the interior when needed.
