Clinical Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics
About
Dosage recommendations for both registered and new drugs under development are based on the analysis and interpretation of clinical trials. The derived knowledge on pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties provides a basis for effective and safe pharmacotherapy in different patient populations.
Clinical drug development in the exploratory phase, the emanating results are essential for decisions on how and if drugs should be developed or not. An ongoing trend in drug development is the increasing use of modelling and simulation as a tool to quantify, explore, and understand but also to predict outcomes, so called Model Based Drug Development (MBDD).
The course provides advanced knowledge in how pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics are studied in clinical trials and how the results obtained can be processed and interpreted. The course focuses on data analysis using internationally leading software such as WinNonlin and to some extent NONMEM. Students will analyze authentic PKPD data from a clinical study and compare model-independent and model-based analysis. Students will receive training in oral and written communication skills and will be introduced to the current research in the area.
The course is particularly suitable for those who are interested in future activities in drug development, for those with an interest in pharmacotherapy or model-based analysis of biological systems, a "hot" area for the future!
This course is open to
